The Winner of June’s Mini-MOLP Writing Contest

Kim LewisWe are bursting with olde English joy and very excited to announce the winner of our Sonnet for the Solstice Mini-MOLP writing contest.

Kim Lewis has scooped the title with a truly beautiful piece of poetry.

Kim lives in Burnham on Sea in Somerset, England. Five years ago she was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and finds creative writing therapeutic. When she was made redundant from her telesales job, she got involved with the local U3A and joined a creative writing group and a poetry group. With encouragement from the tutors and other students she has been inspired to write regularly and has met a wonderful new circle of friends. Kim has twice made the short list of the Mervyn Peake Awards (celebrating the creativity of people with Parkinson’s) with her short stories.

Earlier this year, a Bristol theatre company hosted a series of writing workshops in Burnham on Sea. Its aim was to produce 12 monologues which would be performed in local shops and Kim was lucky enough to have one of hers chosen.

She loves to write and is delighted to have won a prize for her sonnet.

Kim has won 10 of our best selling titles and in addition to that, her beautiful piece of poetry will be performed live at Stonehenge on this winter’s solstice!

As with our slightly grander Magic Oxygen Literary Prize and every other entry to the Mini-MOLP contests, Kim’s winning sonnet has resulted in a tree being planted in our Word Forest in Bore, Kenya. They have also helped fund the building and fitting out of a brand new classroom in Kundeni Primary School in the same community.

Our writing competitions are the only ones in the world where everyone wins!

Kim’s writing and her literary achievements will be given a well earned springboard on a couple of pages in the Magic Oxygen Literary Prize Anthology 2017 and will be published for all to enjoy.

As Sonnet for the Solstice closes her doors, we hope you’re feeling inspired to get an entry into our penultimate Mini-MOLP, Postcard from the Park – click here for details and to get your entry in – it closes at midnight on 31st July!

Congratulations Kim on your splendid win and good luck to all who enter the July Mini-MOLP!
